Krakow for Foodies

Hey everyone, let’s start our polish journey

When you are walking in the streets of Krakow you cannot miss all the obwarzanek stands. obwarz… what? Yes, obwarzanek also known as the bagel’s cousin or ancestor. You will literally find an obwarzanek small stands at every damn streets corner in Krakow and believe it tastes delicious. It is one of Krakow’s staple street foods. Try to get one early in the morning or at least in the morning because it will be more fresh: warm, golden brown crust, soft and chewy… Yummy.

I had one topped with poppy seeds, it was really good (picture below). You can either have it plan or try it with various spreads.

Pierogi aka the polish dumplings

Pierogi are these little pieces of awesomeness stuffed with various ingredients. It is a polish delicacy and can be considered as a dumpling. Various authentics restaurants are making these beauties around Poland. In Krakow, I went to przystanek pierogarnia, it is very small (only 2-3 seats available inside) but the place has a lot of charm and they are making some delicious Pierogi.

I had a plate of cottage cheese and potato pierogi that was just awesome. So cheap and so delicious, even if you can’t spell przystanek pierogarnia, you need to have some Pierogi there.

Vegan Kebab… WTF?

Yep, this is not a joke, during my trip to Krakow I ate a delicious vegan kebab. Believe me, it was totally worth it. When, you enter the shop, nothing is different from a regular kebab shop. The “fake” meat is spinning and grilled, you can see on the picture below, that the vegan meat substitute looks amazingly real and tastes like an great kebab.

I had a “beirut” vegab with hummus, tahini, veggies and “fake” meat. Truly disturbing to eat in this vegan friendly shop.

  • Opening hours: 11am – 9pm (till 11pm Friday/saturday and till 8pm on sunday).

Don’t forget: Bon appétit.
